This post isnt about Geocaching, but still worth reading.

Taylor Jones is a 4 1/2 year old little girl who was diagnosed with leukemia last year. She received her bone marrow transplant and is now doing well. Her father faces losing his job and all the families benefits.
COBRA will cover them for $1,390/month, that cost is staggering to them and they dont know how they will pay it.
Taylor's mom will be starting a full time job with benefits but they dont kick in until March 2010.
All they asking for is $5 a person to help with this extravagant cost.
please pass this video on to friends, family, and strangers
the more people that see this, the more money can be raised so that Taylor doesn't have to go without coverage and without medical care.

We hid our first caches!

To celebrate our 100th find we decided to go out and hide a couple caches.
hiding is not as easy as it sounds.
We hid them the first time and both of them came back as having to be moved.
i didnt realize that you couldn't hide things on playgrounds?

Now they are up and running smoothly. Im anxiously awaiting the FTFs on both

A Sunday Filled With Cache

Had a great day yesterday, we did miss a couple but thats to be expected sometimes right? LOL
We did however reach 90 caches yesterday!!!
We have decided that when we reach 100 caches that we will be placing our own cache somewhere in the area.

So first we decided to hit some easy ones. they proved a little to easy for Jack who immediately jumped from the truck and ran directly to it.
i swear this kid is a geocaching prodigy

After this cache wen headed down central ave to the next one. We spotted the "wacky inflatable arm flailing tube man" and had to stop for pictures

(if you watch Family Guy, then you'll get this)

Jack was a bit scared of it up close but i did get a decent shot

We ended going from there to a really neat old cemetery

cache was found quickly and then the kids and I looked around a bit at some of the old tombstones

After we found ourselves in Central Park, Schenectady

this is where we struck out on caches but we did have some other great experiences

the kids were feeding geese, and as we were hiking around the woods a Hawk swooped right over Dan and Jacks heads.

I was so mad i missed that picture but i did get some great ones of him after he landed

We made our way further into downtown in search of a train.

i had no idea this was here as i dont travel into downtown Schenectady unless necessary

this thing was pretty cool though

Our flair collection

Ever since we started this little adventure back in august, ive been on the lookout for flair.
We have our designated Geocaching backpack and the outside gets decorated with all the flair i can find.
Im always on the look out for more and more!

What a beautiful Sunday afternoon!

Yesterday we had our first warm day in weeks!
After mapping out our hunting area we were on our way.

The first place we went was just outside Mechanicville, NY. Upon entering the location we discovered that it was a regular hangout for bums, and or teenagers?

Dan, Jack, and Ciera decided to search off past the clearing. Jillian and myself stayed back because of the gully, didnt want to fall in.

Jillian was wondering around looking and exclaims the best three words in geocaching "I found it"
Sure enough, there it was sitting between two logs covered in bark.

As we continued on we hit a local playground. We followed the path around the back and began to look for the cache. I checked out the local wildlife and some of the marks.

Jack was the one who discovered this one, much to the dismay of his big sister. We let the kids play for a bit on the slide and then we were off again to the next hunt.

On the next one our little geocaching MVP struck again. Not 30 second after exiting the truck he found it tucked up into a wall.

The next one was in a very interesting and historical area. It was in Stillwater by the Block House.

This one was hands down the most interesting of the day.

Dan was the one who found it, we all gathered around and popped her open only to discover that the cache was infested with big black ants!

my skin still crawls thinking about it.

Our South Troy Adventure

So a couple weeks back we decided that we were going to go geocaching in South Troy.
We had our maps all set, and we drove to the location of the first cache.
We pull up and im looking around, Dan is getting our 2yo out of the truck.

I notice a muggle(a non geocacher) watching us, so we decide to just sit there acting like were waiting for someone until the muggle left.
Muggle stood there a bit watching and then finally got in his car to drive away.
We continue our search, and next thing we know the guy is pulled up next to us asking us what we are doing?
Then he asked us if we were there to meet so and so to buy drugs.
I guess its common practice to bring your 2yo to a drug deal in s.troy?

So needless to say we were out of there very quickly and wrote that one off as DNF(did not find)

Next we were off to a nearby baseball field. There was supposed to be one in or near the bleachers so we searched around a bit and we didnt find that one either. We werent having the greatest luck as you can guess.

We moved on to the next one, down a path and into the woods.
Put the 2yo in her backpack and took off down the trail.

after a while we realize we have to go down a huge hill that is covered in mud.
I made it down with her on my back and Dan began the search.

He went down into the dried up stream bed, jumped around on some logs like Bear Grylls, just overall had himself a great time.

i happen to look across the way and see a tree with a hole in the bottom. I made my over and sure enough there it was!
popped it open, signed the log, made some trades and took off happy that we had finally found one today.

I really should of started this blog back in august when our family first started geocaching but i didn't think of the idea until now.

just don't be a muggle, they are no good LOL

Our family has been doing this for about 3 months and we've reached a whooping 77 caches so far. We're just regular ole treasure hunters around here!
we're looking to expand our search area but for now all our stories and finds have come from the capital region area of NY (aka Home)
So stay tuned for exciting stories and pictures and maybe a clue or two if your stuck;)
